Thai-Mese, is a very new and very small home based cattery. We are located 75 km South East of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
I have always loved the Siamese breed, so decided when the children got older, it was time to get myself my longed for Siamese. Searching, I found many breeders, and eventually got myself a beautiful blue boy. Delightful as he is, and I wouldn't change him for the world, he wasn't quite what I remembered a Siamese being. He was rather, long, and skinny, and pointy, not what I remembered at all. !!
But he IS a delightful puss. I found out, that slowly over time, the Siamese breed has been changed, quite a bit from the cats I remember, when I was a child.
So again, I set out on a search, not only for a cat from my childhood, but for information. I found, a lot of information on the breed, both modern and Old Style, and I found, the new modern Siamese that is around today, is what is recognised in the show ring. The Old Style Siamese turned out to be a bit elusive. I found many breeders in Europe and The U.S.A. Where they are recognised as Thai , but try getting an OSS in Australia !!!
Eventually I found a wonderful couple in Victoria, Lyn and Pat of Rosemarie Cattery, who also love the OSS and have worked tirelessly to keep this breed alive in Australia and once again have them recognised. Like overseas, the OSS will now be recoginsed in the show ring as Thai.
FINALLY, my first OSS arrived in the form of Bella, a seal girl from Lyn and Pat, she is such a delight, a beautiful, gentle, BIG cat. Now THAT is what I remember a Siamese looking like. !!!
I thought for a long time and did a lot more research into the breed, and decided to import my own OSS, and add to and hopefully help the gene pool here in Australia. Lucky me, I get to combine the best of both worlds, my LOVE of animals, and helping preserve and promote this beautiful breed.
Mia arrived from Olga, at Dynasty Siam in the USA. It was long, stressful, costly and time consuming, but I'd do it again anytime if it got me another Mia. !!! She is a beautiful seal girl, and is the start of my breeding program. She is also a real credit to Olga, and her family for raising such a delightful, well adjusted cat. Thank you Olga.
Lyn and Pat have been amazing in their support and encouragement of me, with importing Mia, nothing has been to much trouble, even my dumb questions. !!! With out their support, I probably would have given up. Thanks so much :)
